Steps to A Healthier
Salinas
The
Steps to a Healthier Salinas program aims to help Salinas’s
residents live longer, better, and healthier lives by reducing
the burden of diabetes, overweight, obesity, and asthma and
addressing three related risk factors – physical inactivity,
poor nutrition, and tobacco use.

With Samba star and Salinas native Alvaro
Hernandez as coach, the Steps
program filmed a great Public Service Announcement geared at
fighting obesity and promoting healthy lifestyles.
"Sending uniformed players who
epitomize the healthy and active lifestyles that fight obesity,
gives kids a role
model
of health to look up to... one who may very well have grown up
in their neighborhood"
Can these players make a difference?
Be it at asthma camp, a school demo for
H.E.L.P., or filming a
Public Service video for
Steps to a Healthier Salinas; the answer is found by
simply watching the eyes of impressionable children mesmerized
by the masterful juggling of a soccer ball. Messages
of health that are often lost in the glut of sugar cereal and
soda advertising, resonate strongly when coming from a local
"hero" who stands tall as a living testament to a healthy
lifestyle.
